Ordinary Meets History

History is often thought of either in terms of rulers and wars (the large scale) or in terms of the lives of ordinary people (the small scale). Sometimes, however, the two worlds collided. Decisions made by rulers affected people’s everyday lives. On the other hand, rulers had to respond to situations within their own societies. And everyone was influenced by the world around them – sometimes by things as simple as the weather.
